Drink Up!

Proper Hydration is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.

Because our bodies are comprised of 60 to 80% water it is vital to consume adequate amounts daily to replenish.

Skin, the largest most neglected organ, continues to show the importance of proper hydration. This winter I treated numerous cases of dehydrated skin. Not only is this due to reduced water consumption, but also exposure to free radicals in our environment. Water plays a vital role in wrinkle prevention, breakouts, sallow skin and also helps with dry hair.

The number of ounces you need daily can be determined by dividing your body weight in half. So for a 150 pound person you would try to consume at least 75 ounces of water a day. Considering that water forms the foundations of the blood and lymphatic systems that are responsible for nutrient supply and waste removal of the body, the excess ounces are necessary.

It may seem challenging, but have a large glass of water in the morning upon waking and add one additional 8 oz glass per week until you have achieved your goal. By introducing this regimen slowly you will not feel the urge to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes and soon will become used to the new habit!
