Now Offering Cupping

Cupping For Better Health

We are excited to announce that we are now offering cupping.  Cupping is an ancient art form that is gently powerful, refreshes stagnant tissue, softens tense muscles without pain, promotes lymphatic drainage for removal of metabolic waste.

We also offer Micro Cupping Face Drainage treatments that last 30 minutes.  These treatments drain stagnant fluid and gently massages facial muscles, cumulatively retraining the lymphatic drainage system of the face.  This tightens and tones the soft tissue of the face while reducing inflammation and promoting healing from external damage.  Great for seasonal allergies and sinus problems as well.

We also are offering Magnetic Reflexology, this combines the healing attributes of reflexology with magnets, acupressure and vacuum therapy.  Reflex points are addressed with small cups featuring magnets.

If you'd like to experience, PURE Heaven, you can enjoy the tension releasing power of Massage Cupping (TM) therapy on the back, neck and shoulders, then continue with Face Lifting and Drainage and finish with Magnetic Reflexology.  Profoundly relaxing, this service is recommended for clients who have already experienced a Massage Cupping (TM) service.

If you'd like to make an appointment, please call 215-542-7873.

Photo: Are you thinking about getting a table Thai massage? Why are you waiting?

In body work, there are a few main ideals. Massage is the manual manipulation of soft tissue and lengthening or stretching of it. Massage is great because it can get to things that stretching can't and stretching is great because it can do things that massage can't. They both have their place and time.

When it comes to stretching at home and trying to increase flexibility and range of motion, it's hard to push ourselves to get where we want. So a modality like Table Thai can be very helpful with this. During a Thai session, the therapist will ask you to let go and allow them to passively stretch and put your body thought its range of motion. Don't worry - you will let go. The passive state you're in will let the therapist push you farther and achieve more range of motion than you thought was possible. You will leave feeling open, lighter, taller and freer.

Whether you’re involved in competitive sports or just an active lifestyle, Table Thai can be an important part of keeping your body in balance. Call today to schedule an appointment at (215) 542-7873.

Tuesday's Wellness Tip from our Senior Massage Therapist Michael!

Tuesday's Wellness Tip from our Senior Massage Therapist Michael!
The simple act of breathing can be over looked during everyday life. It affects our mind and our body, the brain and the heart. Because these things need oxygen to function properly, deep breathing is essential for good health.

So throughout the day, be mindful of how you breathe. It's our most basic need and it's often our most neglected one.

How to Breathe:
It is best to breathe through your nose, as the tiny hairs and mucous membranes filter and moisturize the inhaled air. As you inhale you should feel your abdomen rising - it is as if your stomach is filling with air. As you exhale, the abdomen comes back in, like a balloon releasing all of its air. This inhale and exhale process should continue comfortably and smoothly. The abdomen should rise as you inhale and fall as you exhale. The chest should move only slightly.

  Sunscreen
                               Physical VS Chemical

http://www.the-claire.com/Image-Skincare-Prevention_-Tinted-Moisturizer-SPF-30-.jpg Did you know? There are two types of sunscreen: chemical and physical? Currently there are only 2 FDA-approved physical sunscreens: titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. By laying on the skin's surface and deflecting the sun's damaging rays, these ingredients provide SPF protection. Physical sunscreens can be visible on the skin (especially on darker skin tones) and have a reflective quality, not the best for flash photography.

There are several FDA-approved chemical sunscreens, like avobenzone, oxybenzone and octinoxate. These ingredients absorb and/or scatter the sun's damaging rays to protect the skin. Chemical sunscreens are less noticeable on the surface of the skin and are an ideal choice for flash photography.

Ultimately you will find that many products are a combination of both chemical and physical  ingredients.

Be SENSIBLE about the SUN!
  • Use SPF products labeled "broad-spectrum"
  • Numbers matter! SPF 15-50 is recommended
  • Reapply every 2 hours

Top 10 Reasons to Get a Massage*:

  1. Blast away the effects of STRESS - Muscle manipulation during a massage relieves muscle tension. Initial stress appears physically in our bodies via tight muscles and the discomfort of those same muscles increases stress; vicious cycle.  The majority of times, holding patterns are created in the body (eg. shoulders raised up, jaw clenching) that one does NOT recognize UNTIL a massage where our Therapists bring awareness through touch to the client.  Whether the stress is emotional, mental (work related) or physical (sport) related, the stress theory is the same.
  2. Pain reduction and management - Massage increases blood flow thereby increasing oxygen to the body as a whole to either temporarily relieve a localized injury/ache or decrease the pain as a whole due to improved circulation.
  3. Improve circulation and remove toxins- Blood is manually moved during massage while Therapists intentionally massage from one part of the body to another, laterally, bilaterally, etc.  As mentioned above, massage increases the blood flow thereby increasing and spreading oxygen to all the muscles.  Oxygenated blood to muscles; is as food to humans.  When we properly nourish our muscles with oxygenated blood through manual massage we extricate the toxins held within those muscles.  Ever hear a Pure Spa MT (Massage Therapist) telling you to drink water after a massage?  The #1 reason for that is to assist in flushing/removing toxins in the body.  Ever have a headache after a massage?  Ask yourself, honestly, if you were dehydrated or when the last time you received a massage to manually remove toxins was.
  4. Lower blood pressure - Research any medical journals for Hypertension (High BP) and you will see a long list of medications, diuretics, and many other medications that can help treat hypertension but keep scrolling and you'll notice a small yet powerful note on alternative ways to treat... Massage Therapy.
  5. Give your immune system a boost - Take care of your body and it takes care of you!  A supple body free from toxins is sure to assist the immune system in maintaining homeostasis (balance).
  6. Aid in prevention of injury and illness - With an increase to your immune system and properly nourished muscles, fascia (connective tissue that encompasses every muscle/tendon), and ligaments, your body is better prepared to take on that pickup wii or waffle ball game or recover from that missed step heading to the office!
  7. Improve posture - Massage brings awareness to sore muscles.  Muscles that are strong and nourished can help sustain the proper posture that so many of us struggle to sustain while at our desks, laptops in bed, or driving in our cars.  I bet a Pure Spa MT has asked you about your daily activities or jobs trying to find the cause of a reoccurring muscle ache.
  8. Recover from injury more quickly - By manually bringing nutrients to the muscle, it's as if your mom's there her fix-all homemade chicken soup!
  9. Relax muscle tension and improve flexibility - Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds each and every fiber underneath your skin.  Ever wonder why you are strong yet not flexible?  Try receiving Myofascial Release within your massage and you'll see the difference when Massage Therapist directly concentrates on an area of the body.  Those tight woven fibers bind up easily and aren't always released if proper pressure isn't applied.  As yoga increases muscle flexibility consider Myofascial Release the yoga of Massage Therapy.  See first bullet on Blast Away Stress.
  10. Sleep better - You've now eliminated the achy back, assisted the stress relief and given your body a break... sleep is the only answer.
*Always consult with your doctor when using new treatments - including pharmaceutical and alternative treatments.
